Be the One Campaign

For our 2016 summer sponsorship campaign, we wanted to highlight the impact that donors can make in children’s lives. Most of us have been fortunate enough to have someone invest in us at a young age—whether that was a parent, teacher, family member, or friend—so we wanted donors to imagine being that influence for another child.

Approach:

We wanted to highlight the number “one” as a focal element of the campaign, as one person can make a difference in the life of one child for about $1 a day. Since the campaign was so focused on the effect that positive mentoring relationships can have, we focused on relationship-building with the donor’s sponsored child through a series of guides on how to correspond, pray for, and ultimately connect with a child in need. We also held a contest to provide a free sponsorship where we would pay for child support and daily needs while the lucky winner simply focused on the relationship-building aspect.

Child Sponsorship Guide

Once a donor decided to sponsor a child, we sent them a sponsorship guide along with their informational packet about their child. This was a re-design of an old brochure to explain the intricacies of sponsorship with a series of tips on how to make the most of sponsorship.

The design process was a complete overhaul of the previous brochure with a new grid system, introducing a new icon set and style, focusing more on images within the overall design, and lettering each section to make them stand out.

Child Sponsorship Writing Prompts

As sponsors corresponded back-and-forth with their children, we provided a series of prompts to keep the conversations going. Some were simple questionnaires discussing a child's favorite food, school subject, or career goals while others contained coloring pages and activities. Every prompt included a section where the child could write a letter to the sponsor in their native language with translation provided, as well as a space where they could draw a personalized picture - a favorite feature of kids across the globe.

Approach:

To correspond with a program re-brand and help our sponsorship program tie in with World Help’s new look, I re-introduced our color system and style into each piece and created a seamless pattern that utilized my iconography to serve as a repeating element in each prompt. I also created a Spanish version of each prompt to cater to our many programs across South America.

Child Sponsorship Blog Series

Throughout 2017, we wrote a series of blog posts to help sponsors deepen their relationships with sponsored children. In them, we covered a lot of the most frequently asked questions, including advice on writing letters, praying for the child, and understanding how to connect with their culture. Each month, they received an email with tips and ideas that connected to our Pinterest board to help deepen relationships throughout the year.

Services Provided:

  • Lettering and Design

  • Photography

Approach:

To change things up, I decided to go with a more photographic approach for each header, incorporating items that tied into each month's focus and staging them to create unique hero images pertaining to the month’s topic.

Positive Alternative Radio Partnership

In 2015, we partnered with Positive Alternative Radio to promote sponsorships across the nation. Each month had a different focus and was paired with a unique radio ad for which I lettered the month's theme with a style corresponding to the ad's tone and message. These were run as banner ads across the radio network's websites and web players.
