VISION PACKET:

Unseen seeks to accelerate the fight against human trafficking and its root causes by supporting international partners. Their team needed a vision packet to inspire major donors to support their life-changing work and connect their vision to manage and deliver 100+ strategic marketing and fundraising projects annually.

Old Concept:

Unseen initially worked with another design firm on the project, but they weren’t thrilled with the direction. The only thing they wanted to keep was the “Hope Boldly” theme. They shared these examples with me so I could understand the core concept and get a sense of the content, but I essentially restarted the packet from scratch.

Anti-Trafficking Model:

One thing that was important to capture was Unseen’s model for combatting trafficking. They are unique in that they support organizations in the fight across the entire trafficking cycle, which means they support organizations in proactive, preventative measures as well as in aftercare and prosecution. With such a broad spectrum of work, it was critical to find a way of communicating the cycle of trafficking to potential donors so they could understand the importance of every step in the process and the critical role Unseen plays. I worked closely with their team on a number of different solutions to communicate a ton of information concisely and effectively.

Concepts:

Based on their first experience, I worked with Unseen to quickly put together layouts to get a gauge on what visual direction they liked. After getting their valuable feedback, I was able to build out a grid system that kept the packet interesting while maintaining a consistent visual flow.

I also worked with them to pick the right photos to portray a wide range of nationalities and ages in order to effectively capture the breadth of the demographics they work with.

Final:

The final direction honed in on different “boldly” statements as guiding pages for each spread. By combining stats, stories, and quotes, the packet unpacks facts about trafficking, as well as Unseen’s growth, impact, and vision statement.

2019 ANNUAL REPORT:

As a follow-up to the vision packet, I worked with Unseen on their annual report. In the annual report, we sought to go beyond the amazing numbers and statistics to connect readers with the deeper emotional story that exists on the other end of the results. It was important to make donors realize the reach their investments had by allowing them to hear stories from partners, board members, and those directly aided by Unseen’s efforts.

Iconography:

I worked on some custom iconography with a simplified color palette for Unseen. Using their branded orange as an accent, I liked the idea of introducing human-centered marks to represent the active role Unseen plays in restoring hope for vulnerable people. I created a set of icons that prominently featured hands in action. Based on the final content, we stripped back the icon set to just three prominent marks for the impact breakdown, but I was still happy with the set.

Final:

The final report was much more numbers-focused as it was designed to share the incredible impact Unseen made in 2019. I worked on expanding Unseen’s color palette with a soft blue to complement the tone of the content. Similar to the vision packet, I worked with Unseen’s team to gather a wide range of photos to capture the many regions their partners work in. They were able to present their report at their annual event where it was very well-received.
